Khadi
Khadi is a hand-spun and hand-woven fabric from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, traditionally made from cotton but also including silk or wool. Crafted entirely by hand—from spinning on a charkha to weaving on handlooms—Khadi represents artisanal heritage. Bengal weavers have long mastered the fine counts of cotton and silk Khadi. Mahatma Gandhi promoted Khadi as a symbol of self-reliance and traditional craftsmanship.
Block Printing
Block printing is a centuries-old method of hand-printing textiles with natural dyes, originating in China but perfected in India. Indian artisans excelled in using plant-based dyes, mordants, and resist techniques like dabu to create intricate, vibrant patterns sought after globally.
